Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) is just around the corner! This is a time when beneficiaries like yourself can make changes to their Medicare plan for the coming year. You can choose to find a new plan if your needs or benefits have changed, or simply choose to keep the same coverage if you like the plan you have.

Here are a few tips on being best prepared for AEP, and what pitfalls you will want to avoid.
Don’t Be Fooled!
AEP is a time when everyone is trying to get your attention. You may have seen Joe Namath and JJ Walker on television commercials assuring you that they can get you an incredible Medicare Plan that includes everything from dental coverage to meal delivery to money back in your social security check.
While some of the options may be available to Medicare beneficiaries, these commercials are made to suck you into a bigger scheme. In most cases, you’ll speak to a call center agent in another state who will do his/her best to change you from your current plan. In many cases, callers are switched to plans that are more expensive or don’t have the benefits of what is promised in the advertisements. The best thing that you can do is call your local Core Insurance Advisor and have them walk you through your plan options. Get advice from someone you know and trust. Joe Namath may have been a great quarterback, but that doesn’t make him a Medicare expert.
Enrollment Timelines
Remember that AEP runs from October 15 to December 7. Whatever choices you make during that time period will go into effect on January 1.
